Cameron Watson

My name is Cam Watson, and I have been a strong, competitive rugby player for many years. From first starting rugby aged 14 at school, I fell in love with the game instantly. I joined Wolverhampton Rugby Club within only a few games under my belt at school level. I settled in very well, becoming a regular starter and first choice kicking option after less than half a season. I played at Wolverhampton through the youth ages, all the way up to the end of the final colts u18’s season, whilst also being selected to play any games which the u21’s and 23’s had.

During my time playing school rugby, I managed to break into trials at the England Lambs, which is a mix of the best rugby players aged 17 and 18 who attend independent schools across the whole country. However, sadly I fell just short but I was impressed with how well I had done in a matter of only 2-3 years and making it to a very high standard.

After finishing school, I moved to Worcester University where I played in the 1st XV for all my 3 years in strong Midlands leagues. Very quickly, I got picked up by a local team to the university, which was Droitwich RFC who at the time played a league below Nat 3. I slotted straight into the 1st XV 15 jersey, however my time was cut short as I suffered a bad injury early on, therefore I just decided to concentrate on my rugby at University.

The most notable year of university rugby came in my 3rd and final year, where we went unbeaten and won the league, and I managed to score an impressive 12 tries.

I pride myself on my abilities under the high ball, my kicking game and my direct, hard running lines to get on the front foot, which as a back 3 player is very important in this day and age with rugby.

I am looking to play a good standard of rugby union, in a team that has a strong desire to do well. On a personal level, I want to advance to the next stage as a rugby player as I always look to improve, whether it be in the gym, on my own skills or even off the pitch, trying to help and assist the team I play in as much as possible.
