JACK HAYSON
BIO
Jack Hayson (22) is part of a crop of exciting young Rugby talent
making the transition into the elite senior ranks. He recently completed
an extended trial with the Melbourne Rebels after an impressive
showing in the 2018 NRC, playing for the Sydney Rays.
Hayson entered elite open-age Rugby via Randwick in the Shute
Shield, making his First Grade debut in 2016 as a 20-year-old. In just
his second season for the Galloping Greens he was awarded the dual
honour of First Grade ‘Best and Fairest’ and ‘Players’ Player’.
Since then he has represented NSW as Captain of the U20s side, and
joined the Sydney Rays in the NRC. Despite the fledgling performance
of his team, Hayson has been a standout, identified by Rugby pundits
as a ‘player to watch’ for the 2019 season.
Hayson is a very physical backrower with the capacity to cover all
three backrow positions at 6, 7, and 8. He battles well on the ball and
has an enormous work rate. Hayson’s ‘big engine’ not only provides the
stamina for his powerful running and spirited defence, but is also the
driving force behind his commanding on-field presence.
Jack is a graduate of St Ignatius College Riverview where he received
the triple honour of 1XV ‘Best and Fairest’, ‘Players’ Player’, and ‘Best
Forward’. It is also where Jack honed his leadership skills; instated to
captaincy roles at school and State level.
Hayson is an undisputed future star of the sport. Whether that resolves
via Super Rugby or through an opportunity overseas will be determined
over this next critical period.
